A stone’s throw from SLAM is the Kemper on Wash U.’s campus. The oldest art museum west of the Mississippi, and yet another free museum to see some of the greats and hang out with some truly wonderful art students.

SLAM has a new, very beautiful contemporary art wing, but CAM really nails it. Small enough to be exactly what you need when you need it. The place isn’t even in Forest Park, and it is free. STL for the win again.

Yes, it’s a Catholic church. Yes, it’s also the largest mosaic collection in the world outside Russia, and we know you are not headed there any time soon. Be respectful, but definitely go gawk at its beauty.
