Two of our Favorite Three Meals
Union Loafers Café and Bread Bakery
I love bread; you love bread. Everyone loves bread. And when you mix bread with a perfect cafe, you get Union Loafers. Getting a little gem salad is not optional. Whether you order of cheesy bread or pizza rosa (or both) says a lot about you. Word on the street is Jon Hamm is silent investor. This is an excellent investment for your stomach.
Banh Mi So 1
Their claim to fame is the best spring rolls in St. Louis, and I do not think they are wrong. But the whole menu is incredible. A true gem for vegetarians, vegans, and carnivores alike. A family run business, always wave to Mom in the back running the kitchen.
Indo
Nick Bognar is a force of nature. I’m pretty sure he’s barely 30, and he has already been named Food & Wine Best New Chefs 2020. Indo was named one of the Best New Restaurants In America 2020 by both Esquire and GQ Magazine. The place is no joke. If you have a little money to burn, absolutely make a reservation to hang out with him for an omakase meal. Not feeling that adventurous? Everything on the menu is a dream. As an added benefit, this is not a stuffy place. Be you. Let the freak flag fly, but don’t you dare attempt to substitute anything on the menu. Let it be as Nick intended.
Himalayan Yeti
Go for lunch and hit that buffet hard. Take a nap afterward. That’s a good day.
Tree House
All vegetarian and/or vegan, Tree House does a heck of a date night… or lunch! Wait, brunch too! The menu changes frequently due to seasonal food availability, but it’s all fantastic so go in blind and follow your gut.
Louie
Skip the Hill. This is the Italian food you need. The wine is flowing, the pasta is fresh, and the pizza is calling your name. Bring a group so you can order the whole menu. You’ll want to make a reservation pretty far in advance. St. Louis loves Louie, and they love us back.
Lona’s Lil Eats
Lona is from a “hill tribe” area the Chinese call Xishuangbanna, and the Thai call Sipsongpanna. The melding of Chinese and Thai food into the super fresh, incredibly flavorful food coming out of this kitchen is James Beard noteworthy. If given the option, always order Lona-Q sauce. If not, order it on the side.
Kounter Kulture
Chris is on the website for the third time (see The Treehouse in Where to Stay and Songbird in Breakfast)! She must be doing something right, huh? Everything she does sources ingredients as close to the farm as possible, and for dinner she brings you “a rotating list of Asian dishes.” All food is to-go here so request some napkins and find a cozy place to feast away.
